The study cites as examples of waste a $45 thousand playground, a $40 million cultural building and $16 million in renovations at the(DHHS) Department of Health and Human Services Office. What the Heritage Policy Center neglects to tell you is that those projects were requests that the state did not fund.
Crystal Canney, Communications Director for Citizens Unified for Maine's Future, said: "Evidently, for the Maine Heritage Policy Center, ‘up’ is ‘down’. In their world, they seem to think they can say anything and Mainers will believe it. In fact, Maine’s state government did not fund these projects. Mainers should not be fooled. This is just another blatant attempt to push their agenda with little regard for the facts."
TABOR II, which comes in the form of Question 4 on this November’s ballot, could cause serious cuts to education, health care, and infrastructure in a recessionary time when we can least afford it. The initiative would replace our tradition of local control with a rigid formula. The TABOR formula risks locking Maine’s economy into a permanent economic recession by restricting investments in Maine’s future.
Communications Director Canney continued: " Mainers decided in 2004 and 2006 they didn't want TABOR. It's time to say ‘no’ to TABOR for good this November by voting ‘no’ on Question 4."
